Prospective Breast Cancer Biobank

A population-based biobank in Western Norway with a long follow-up time.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women. New biomedical knowledge enables the long-term monitoring of patients in order to assess the effectiveness of treatment, as well as to detect any potential recurrence at an early stage; however, the development of new biomarkers is required to achieve this aim.

The PBCB project follows breast cancer patients for up to 11 years after diagnosis, with regular collection of blood and urine samples. During this follow-up period, patients’ quality of life during and after treatment is also assessed.

Taken together, this forms a unique research basis for this purpose, which in turn may benefit future breast cancer patients and cancer survivors.
