Practical information for patients and relatives

Here you will find information about, among other things, parking, transportation, visiting hours, payment, and facilities at the hospital.

Parking and Transport

The P5 parking garage for visitors is located at Leif Larsens gate 4. It is near the main entrance of building A.

The parking garage has accessible parking, charging spots for electric cars, and spaces for motorcycles.

There is accessible parking in parking garage P5 for visitors.

In addition, there is accessible parking along Leif Larsens gate, outside the main entrance of building A and outside the emergency reception.

There are several drop-off zones where passengers can be set down. You can find them in the following locations:

  • outside the main entrance of Building A
  • outside the entrance to Building B
  • outside the entrance to the ceremony room on the north side of Building B

Bus

The bus stop SUS Ullandhaug is located at the square in the middle of the hospital, with a short distance to the main entrance.

Train

The nearest train station is Jåttåvågen station. From here, there is a bus that goes to SUS Ullandhaug. The bus ride takes about 10 minutes.

It is also possible to travel to Stavanger station and take a bus from there to the hospital.

The parking garage at Våland has 313 parking spaces. These are reserved for visitors to Stavanger University Hospital (SUS) and St. Svithun Hotel.

From the parking garage, you can take the elevator directly to the hospital's main entrance. To reach the parking garage, follow the signs from Fylkeslege Ebbells gate. The parking garage is well-lit and monitored by video surveillance. The height limit for vehicles in the parking garage is 2.1 meters.

The vehicle's license plate is automatically read by a camera upon entry and exit. You do not need to take a parking ticket. For parking in outdoor areas, remember to allow enough parking time. There may be some waiting time at the hospital.

You have four options to pay for parking:

  1. Download the Aimo app or the EasyPark app* and register. Your parking will be charged automatically upon exit.
  2. Pay upon departure. Enter your vehicle's registration number at the machine.
  3. Pay within 48 hours.
  4. Invoice by mail. Note! You will incur an invoice fee in addition.

You do not need to place the parking ticket in the window.

The EasyPark code is 4747 at the emergency reception and 9860 at other machines.

If you want a receipt, or if you leave the parking facility before the estimated maximum time, use the same card at the machine again. You will then receive a receipt for the amount paid.

*When using EasyPark for parking and charging an electric car, a service fee of 15% will be added (minimum NOK 4.90 per parking transaction).

Visitors can use the parking garage for employees at Våland for motorcycle parking. This parking garage has designated spots for motorcycles. There are also marked motorcycle spaces at BUPA (entrance L on the map).

Motorcycle parking in spots marked for motorcycles is free of charge. When parking in a regular parking space, the parking fee is the same as for cars.

There is short-term parking available at the main entrance on Våland (maximum 15 minutes).

There are accessible parking spaces at all visitor entrances at Våland.

Outside the main entrance (entrance 1), there are four parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities. These have a time limit of four hours.

There are also parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities in the visitor parking garage. These spaces are subject to fees like other parking in the hospital area.

Visitors to Våland with electric cars park in the visitor parking garage and pay as for regular parking. In the parking garage, there are charging stations for electric cars. There are four charging points, all located in U2. It costs 10 kroner per hour for charging.

If you are going to stay at the hospital for more than three days, patients and relatives can purchase a parking permit at a reduced price.

You must pay the full parking fee for the first three nights. After that, you will be able to purchase a digital parking permit at a reduced price.

A parking permit (weekly parking) in the parking garage costs 350 kroner per week. Note! This only applies to the parking garage (not outdoor parking).

How to purchase the parking permit

Contact your department to get a requisition for the parking permit. The department will assess whether you need long-term parking.

Bring the requisition to the patient information desk in the foyer at the main entrance. There, the vehicle's registration number will be registered in Aimo Park's parking system. You will then have a digital parking permit. This will automatically expire after one week.

The patient information desk is open Monday–Friday from 07:30 to 21:00, Saturdays from 10:00 to 19:00, and Sundays from 11:00 to 19:00.

The digital parking permit must be paid for with a debit card.

If you need parking for longer than one week, ask the department to fill out a new requisition.

Bus

There are several bus stops around the hospital area. The closest are "SUS Våland" (nearest the main entrance), "Stavanger legevakt," and "Fredrik Nannestads vei."

The airport bus also stops at "SUS Våland."

Train

The nearest train station is Paradis station. It is located about one kilometer from the main building. See Kolumbus.no for schedules.

Payment

As soon as the invoice for your appointment is ready, you will receive an SMS with a payment request. By using the link in the SMS, you can choose whether to pay with Vipps or invoice.

If you choose to pay by invoice, it will be sent as an e-invoice to your online bank. If you cannot receive e-invoices, you will receive the invoice by mail.

If you receive an e-invoice that you do not have access to, or do not wish to use e-invoice, you must contact your bank for assistance in removing this option.

If you do not show up for your scheduled appointment and have not notified us more than 24 hours before the appointment, you must pay a fee.

Free Card

When you have paid over a certain amount in co-payments, you will receive a free card for the rest of the calendar year. Here you can read more about the free card and amount limits (helsenorge.no).

Co-payment

In some cases, you may need to pay for bandages or similar in addition to the co-payment.

Appointment at the Hospital

Information regarding appointments at the hospital

  • Bathrobe or loose-fitting sweatpants with an adjustable waistband.
  • Good indoor shoes that are sturdy and easy to put on. For hygiene reasons, it is not allowed to walk barefoot inside the hospital.
  • Toiletries such as toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, deodorant, and possibly a razor.
  • Assistive devices you depend on, such as a cane, crutches, walker, and wheelchair.

We recommend leaving valuables at home.

At the hospital, strict hygiene is an important factor in providing good care to our patients. Therefore, there is a general ban on bringing animals into buildings on the hospital grounds.

For those who are going to have surgery

Companions, relatives, or partners are welcome to accompany you during outpatient consultations and treatments.

If you have newly developed respiratory symptoms, we ask that you do not attend the hospital as a companion. If a companion with respiratory illness symptoms must participate, we recommend wearing a face mask.

Information for companions/partners of those giving birth

Gjest.ihelse.net is a free wireless network for visitors, patients, and staff.

  1. Connect to the wireless guest network (gjest.ihelse.net)
  2. A browser should open automatically. If the login window does not appear, try opening the browser manually.
  3. Read the terms carefully.
  4. Press "Accept" when you have read and understood the terms.

Login occurs automatically on devices after the first login, as long as the account is active. You should only need to log in once per device every 31 days.

It is allowed to use mobile phones at the hospital, but we encourage everyone to be considerate of their fellow patients.

It is important to set your phone to silent at night, and to silent mode or vibrate during the day. For the sake of other patients, it is advisable to step out of the room if you need to take a longer call.

There is free wireless internet for patients, relatives, and visitors at the hospital that you can connect to from your smartphone.

All hospital areas are smoke-free. This also applies to e-cigarettes.

Some smoking areas have been designated for patients to use. These areas are marked. Smoking outside the hospital entrances is not allowed.

There is a dedicated smoking shelter on the south side of Building D at Ullandhaug, and outside the main entrance at Våland.

We ask that the smoking ban be respected for the sake of other patients and our staff. We want to provide our employees with a safe working environment and protect patients and visitors from tobacco smoke.

In the department

As a patient, you will receive meal service in the department you are admitted to.

Cafeteria

You can purchase everything from the daily dinner to snacks, baked goods, and simple kiosk items in the cafeteria (Building C) at the hospital.

Kiosk

The kiosk at the main entrance in Building A is open from 08:00–20:00 every day and offers

  • fast food: salads, hot dishes, sausages, pizza, panini, fruit, yogurt, and porridge
  • kiosk items: a good selection of snacks, drinks, and various small items
  • coffee station: various types of coffee and fresh baked goods
  • gift and hygiene products

Snack Machines

There are also snack machines where you can buy sandwiches, mineral water, and snacks. These are located in the emergency reception, in the kiosk area, and at the customer service center.

In the department

As a patient, you will receive meal service in the department you are admitted to.

Cafeteria

There are two cafeterias at the hospital in Våland: Mattorget in the South Building, and Café Latter at the mental health clinic. Here you can buy the daily dinner, snacks, baked goods, and more.

Opening hours at both locations are Monday–Friday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Våland

The pharmacy is centrally located in the foyer of the South Building. Use the main entrance (entrance 1) and turn left at the reception, then left again by the elevators.

Ullandhaug

The pharmacy is located in the foyer of building A inside the main entrance.

Opening hours and other information (sjukehusapoteka-vest.no)

This room is always open and accessible to everyone. In the hospital chapel, arrangements are made for services and daily masses, in addition to baptisms and other church ceremonies.

The chapel also serves as a quiet room for patients, relatives, and staff. It is possible to reserve the room for grief groups, reflection groups, or personal quiet time.

The ceremony room is located in Building B at the hospital in Ullandhaug. It accommodates approximately 35 people.

The ceremony room is used for viewings, funeral services, and burials. Adjacent to the room is a separate space for ritual washing, in accordance with Muslim practice. There is also a storage room and a conversation room connected to the ceremony room.

The room is open to all beliefs. Those who will hold ceremonies here bring their desired symbols.

The prayer room is used for individual prayer. It should not be used for communal gatherings. The prayer room is divided into two with a partition, so that both genders can use the room simultaneously. The room has a sink, shoe rack, carpets, bookshelf, and necessary holy scriptures. The direction of prayer towards Mecca is marked.

In the church hall, there is a quiet room for patients coming for outpatient appointments.

On Thursdays from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM, there are weekday masses in the church hall.
