Summer in the Maternity Ward

From 24 June to and including 9 August, the Midwife-led Unit (Fødeloftet) and the Maternity Ward will be combined and located on the 3rd floor of the A building.

This is due to staff taking their summer holidays.

The postnatal ward will be located together on the 4th floor.

I am in labour

Contact the maternity department if you are having contractions and are about to give birth, or in case of urgent issues. The Maternity Ward: 51 80 42 32

Partner or another companion can be present during labour and birth.

If you are having a planned cesarean section, you can bring your partner/support person to the preparations and during the operation.

In some emergency cesarean sections, the partner/support person may not be allowed to be present during the operation. This depends on the urgency of the cesarean section and the type of anesthesia the pregnant woman receives.

I am giving birth soon

If you have questions regarding your upcoming birth (and labor has not started), contact your general practitioner, midwife, or emergency services as you normally would.

Use the main entrance in Sydbygget at the hospital in Våland. Take the lift or stairs to the 6th floor. Follow the signs to waiting area SYD 61.

Partners and support persons are very welcome to attend. We do not recommend bringing children to the appointment.

Fill out the digital birth journal before you come for the early ultrasound. Enter the date of your last menstruation or IVF due date.

Register the necessary personal information about yourself, the child's father, the pregnancy, and any previous pregnancies before the birth.

You must log in to helsenorge.no to be able to save and submit the form. You will then receive a copy of the submitted form saved under "Messages" on your profile at helsenorge.no.

It is important that you also bring the original forms of the health card, ultrasound form, and any other papers to all check-ups and admissions at the hospital.

I have given birth – the time afterwards

Postnatal rooms at Ullandhaug are usually single rooms, and partners can stay in the room with the mother and baby. Partners/support persons must pay for their stay on the postnatal ward.

During periods with a high number of births, sharing a room with another woman may be necessary. In such cases, partners are not able to stay overnight in the room.

Both parents of children in the neonatal intensive care unit can be in the department.
