Narkose

Narkose er en bedøvelse (anestesi) som virker i hele kroppen. Du blir smertefri, sover og kroppen blir helt slapp. Vi bruker narkose dersom det av ulike årsaker ikke er mulig å gjennomføre operasjonen med lokalbedøvelse. For at vi skal kunne gjennomføre en operasjon med narkose, er det viktig at du faster og følger alle forberedelsene.

Før

Faste

Det er viktig at du følger instruksjonene om hvordan du må forberede deg når du skal opereres i narkose eller spinal-/epiduralbedøvelse. Dersom regler om faste og røyking ikke er fulgt, kan du risikere at behandlingen ikke kan gjennomføres.

Du skal ikke spise eller drikke melk i 6 timer før operasjonen. Du kan drikke litt vann, saft, juice uten fruktkjøtt, brus, te, svart kaffe inntil 2 timer før planlagt inngrep. Unngå røyk, snus, tyggegummi, sukkertøy i 2 timer før operasjonen. Ved spesielle inngrep kan det være andre rutiner som gjelder. Dette vil du bli orientert om på sykehuset før operasjonen.

Barn kan drikke vann, saft og eplejuice opp til én time før operasjon. Barnet kan få morsmelk/-erstatning, banan og yoghurt opp til 4 timer før operasjon. Mat og vanlig melk skal ikke inntas siste seks timer før operasjon.


Smykker

Ringer, klokker, piercing, kontaktlinser, sminke og neglelakk må fjernes før operasjonen. Briller, høreapparat og tannproteser kan du ha på deg/med deg. Mobiltelefon skal ikke følge med til operasjonsavdelingen.


Medisiner og utstyr

Ta med deg alle medisiner som du benytter til vanlig til sykehuset (alternativt en liste over alle medisiner). Det er viktig at sykehuset vet hvilke medisiner du bruker, spesielt gjelder dette blodfortynnende medisiner (Albyl, Plavix, Efient, Brilique, Marevan, Xarelto, Eliquis, Pradaxa, Persantin). Husk også å si ifra om du bruker naturmedisiner, for eksempel ginkgo, ginseng og hvitløk. Dersom du bruker inhalasjonsmedisiner for lungesykdom må disse tas med.

Medisinsk utstyr, som CPAP eller VPAP skal du også ta med.


Tannstatus

Sykehuset må vite om du har proteser, bro, kroner, stifter eller løse tenner. Proteser skal beholdes inntil du kommer inn til operasjonsstuen, og tas ut før du sovner.

Allergi

Du må si i fra om allergier og matintoleranser, særlig dersom det er medisiner du ikke tåler. Før du blir lagt i narkose vil du igjen bli spurt om nakkeplager, allergier og om du har kunstige eller dårlige tenner. Du har blitt spurt om dette tidligere, men sykehuset ønsker å være på den sikre siden.

Under

Når du kjem til operasjonsstua får du eit tynt plastrøyr (venekanyle) lagt inn i ei blodåre i armen. Gjennom denne slangen får du dei ulike medisinane. Først får du smertestillande, og da blir du som oftast døsig, men du er framleis vaken og kan følge med i førebuingane til operasjonen. Deretter får du sovemedisinen som verkar i løpet av kort tid. I nokre tilfelle (særleg hos barn) gir vi narkosegass via ei maske.

Hjelp til å puste

Når du er i narkose, treng du hjelp til å puste. Enten førar vi eit plastrøyr inn i luftrøyret eller vi set ei maske ned i svelget. Dette kan føre til at du blir hås i etterkant av operasjonen. I sjeldne tilfelle kan tenner bli skadde, spesielt om dei er lause eller i dårleg stand.

Nøye overvaking

Nokon er redde for å vakne opp under operasjonen utan at dei kan si ifrå om dette, at dei skal kjenne smerte sjølv om dei har fått narkose eller at dei ikkje vaknar opp frå narkosen i det heile tatt. Slike ting skjer svært sjeldan.

Under heile narkosen er anestesisjukepleiar eller anestesilege rett ved sida av deg og passar på at du søv godt og får rett mengde bedøving. Blodtrykk, puls og mengda surstoff i blodet blir målt kontinuerleg. Dersom det er teikn til at narkosen ikkje er djup nok, aukar vi tilførselen av bedøving. Vi reduserer og stoppar tilførselen av narkosemiddel etter at inngrepet er gjennomført.

Komplikasjonar

Alvorlege komplikasjonar er sjeldan hos friske personar. Dersom du er sjuk og/eller gammal er ein stor operasjon i narkose ei belastning for kroppen. Det er risiko for komplikasjonar som for eksempel lungebetennelse og hjarteinfarkt.

Etter

Når du vaknar opp frå narkosen, overvaker vi hjarterytmen din, og dessutan puls, blodtrykk og pust.

Smerter

Dei aller fleste opplever smerter etter ein operasjon, men du får smertestillande medikament etter behov. Nokon blir kvalme, spesielt personar som har lett for å bli bilsjuke. Sei ifrå om du blir kvalm etter narkosen, da kan vi gi deg medikament som verkar mot dette.

Mange eldre blir forbigåande forvirra etter ein narkose.

Når kan eg reise heim?

Mange kan reise heim allereie den same dagen, men dette varierer og avhenger av kva type operasjon du har gjennomgått.

Du kan ikkje køyre bil den same dagen som du har fått narkose. Du skal heller ikkje vere aleine heime den første natta etter ein narkose.

Vær oppmerksom

Dersom det oppstår annan sjukdom, feber, hoste eller andre infeksjonar, for eksempel forkjøling, når operasjonsdagen nærmar seg – ta kontakt med oss slik at vi kan vurdere om vi kan gjennomføre operasjonen. Gi også beskjed dersom du blir gravid.
