The European Resuscitation Council Congress 2025 took place in Rotterdam from October 23 to 25, bringing together international experts in resuscitation and emergency medicine. New CPR guidelines, developed in collaboration with the AHA and ILCOR, were presented.

Anna Øvstebø presented results from a national follow-up project examining how trauma symptoms among first aid providers change over time. The study found that many bystanders to critical incidents, such as cardiac arrest, experience significant trauma reactions. Factors like increased medical understanding, feeling acknowledged, and receiving support from Norway’s national follow-up system for first aid providers were linked to symptom improvement.

The findings suggest that this national support service is a cost-effective way to reduce trauma symptoms and promote recovery among those who step forward to help in emergencies.
