RAKOS with Adrian Dretvik attended the Scandinavian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (SSAI) 2026 in Reykjavik, Iceland and gave an oral presentation in the Free Paper Session on Wednesday 10 June.
The presentation addressed prehospital recognition of sepsis at the emergency medical dispatch centre (EMDC) and its impact on time to antibiotics. The study is a retrospective, registry-based investigation from Stavanger University Hospital examining whether correct EMDC suspicion of sepsis, based on Norwegian Index criterion 16, is associated with faster antibiotic administration.
The results showed that the EMDC correctly suspected sepsis in only a minority of cases. When suspicion was raised, however, it was associated with faster antibiotic administration. The findings suggest that early identification at the dispatch level may help improve sepsis care.
