Allocation of stimulus funds to the NOR MINOR project

RAKOS, in collaboration with Haukeland University Hospital and Stavanger University Hospital, has been awarded NOK 200,000 - from Helse Vest stimulants for the project NOR MINOR: Treatment of minor ischemic stroke in Norway - practice, variation and outcome

Background

Minor ischemic strokes (NIHSS ≤ 5) account for over half of all ischemic strokes. Treatment practices, however, vary considerably, both regionally and nationally. In recent years, international guidelines have developed, with increasing emphasis on dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) as an alternative to intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) for this patient group. At the same time, knowledge is limited about how these patients are actually treated in Norway, what time delays occur, and how treatment choices affect clinical outcomes.

Objectives

The NOR MINOR project aims to:
• describe current treatment practices for minor stroke in Norway
• map regional variations in the use of IVT and DAPT
• analyze time intervals in the prehospital and intrahospital course
• investigate the relationship between treatment strategy and functional outcomes (mRS after 90 days)
• contribute to the knowledge base for further standardization and improvement of stroke treatment

The study is planned as a retrospective, national registry study based on data from the Norwegian Stroke Registry.

Significance

The project will provide new insight into variations in stroke treatment in Norway, and help strengthen the scientific basis for clinical decisions and improvement work in the health service.

We look forward to getting started on the work, together with partners!
