The purpose of the biobank

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women. New biomedical knowledge enables long-term monitoring of patients to assess the effectiveness of treatment and to detect any recurrence at an early stage. However, new biomarkers need to be developed to achieve this aim.

The PBCB study follows breast cancer patients for up to 11 years after diagnosis, with regular collection of blood and urine samples. During this follow-up period, the patients’ quality of life during and after treatment is also assessed.

Together, this provides a unique research foundation that may help achieve this goal and ultimately benefit future breast cancer patients and cancer survivors.
