The Neurobiobank in Stavanger
The Centre for Movement Disorders and the Neurology Department at Helse Stavanger is continuously working to achieve new knowledge in neurological diseases and their precursors. Research on health information in the form of clinical data and biological material is vital to this work. Since 2004, we have been working to establish good sources of quality-assured research data and material. Important measures have included the establishment of the Norwegian Parkinson Register and biobank, as well as the Neurobiobank in Stavanger.

Neurological diseases encompass a range of different conditions and illnesses that affect a large portion of the population. At Stavanger University Hospital (SUS), research has particularly focused on Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, neuropathies, epilepsy, and strokes.
The biobank aims to enhance the knowledge base regarding causative factors and treatment outcomes for neurological diseases. The biobank has been established to collect biological material from patients with neurological diseases, as well as control subjects. This material is gathered to conduct biomedical investigations. Results from these investigations are compiled with clinical patient data to promote new knowledge about why these diseases occur and to identify biomarkers that can contribute to improved diagnostics and understanding of how the diseases progress.
