The hospitals in Helse Vest have long been working to reduce waiting times for patients. The work on the waiting time commitment is an important part of this effort.

On May 13, 2024, Minister of Health and Care Jan Christian Vestre launched the government's waiting time promise – to reverse the trend and reduce waiting times at hospitals. The waiting list promise has been established together with the Trade Union, Norwegian Nurses' Association, Norwegian Medical Association, Delta, Norwegian Psychological Association, Spekter, Virke, NHO Geneo, and the regional health enterprises. For Health West, the figures are good within mental health care, both for children and adults, as well as in addiction treatment. In somatics (the body's physical health), the developments are weaker. The goal of the Waiting Time Promise is to ensure a decrease in average waiting times in 2024 and 2025.
