Donating wool items to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
Would you like to help keep the smallest babies warm? Premature and sick newborns need extra help to maintain their body temperature. Wool blankets and small wool garments make a big difference for them – which is why your donation is so valuable. To ensure that the wool is safe to use, it requires a little extra care in preparation.

How you can help
- Use wool that is soft and non-itchy.
- Wash finished knitted items on a wool cycle using fragrance-free wool detergent.
- Ensure good hand hygiene when handling the textiles.
- Dry the wool separately from other laundry.
- Place each item in a clean paper bag, with a label showing:
- measurements
- date of washing
- We only accept wool from smoke-free homes.
- You cannot donate wool if you have a contagious infection or multidrug-resistant bacteria.
This is what we need
Wool blankets
- Small: e.g. 30 × 40 cm, 30–40 × 30–40 cm
- Medium: e.g. 60–70 × 60–70 cm
- Large: e.g. 70 × 80 cm, 90–95 × 90–95 cm
Small “wool squares”
- 10–20 × 10–20 cm
Crocheted octopuses
Octopuses must be made from cotton yarn so they can safely be washed at 60°C.
Pattern can be found at spruttegruppen.dk.
What we don't need
We currently have enough hats and socks, so we do not need these at the moment.
