Division of Acute Care Medicine
The Division consists of five departments: Operating theatres, Intensive Care Unit, Prehospital Services, the emergency Ward and the Department of Anaesthesia. In addition there is the Regional Acute Care Medicine Qualification Centre. In cooperation with the Laerdal Group and Stavanger University the Teaching- and Research Centre in Acute Care Medicine (SAFER) is established. About 75 per cent of the activity at the hospital is presentations to the Emergency Ward.

Division of Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics
Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
The department offers delivery assistance for approximately 4000 births every year. This qualifies as one of Norway’s largest birth-assistance and post-natal unit. The department also offers services to women regarding general gynaecology and gynaecological cancer. The department has two policlinic sections for gynaecology, birth/delivery assistance and ultrasound.

Department of Paediatrics
The department consists of a larger Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Acute Paediatric Unit and General Paediatric Services. The department organizes the NAST-project, which gives parents the opportunity of an early return to the home with their premature baby. The NAST-project offer these parents consultation and home visits.

Department of Paediatric Habilitation at Østerlide
This department offers specialized habilitation services to children and youngsters with reduced functional ability. The children’s complex needs demand cooperation regarding treatment between the primary health service and the specialized services. Interdisciplinary teamwork characterize the habilitation process, both concerning diagnostics, the functional ability report, feedback and information to the child, their family and health care personnel.

Division of Internal Medicine
The division of Internal Medicine offers diagnostics, care and treatment to patients with internal medical diseases. The division consists of eight departments which offer services within Infectious Diseases, Pulmonary Medicine, Clinical Immunology, Geriatric Medicine, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Nephrology and Endocrinology. The division runs four clinics for outpatients.

Division of General and Orthopedic Surgery
General Surgery

Division of Surgery comprises four specialized departments, including Breast and Endocrine Surgery, Gastroenterologic Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Urology. A majority of the patients are admitted as emergency or urgent cases, including a large number of trauma patients. Outpatient-clinic consultations and day surgery add to the broad spectrum of diagnostic work-up, endoscopic procedures and operative therapies employed on a large number of patients, including a large number of varius operations within surgical oncology.

Orthopedic Surgery
The division is equipped to care for patients with a wide range of conditions including hip and knee joint replacements, arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction and spinal surgery to correct congenital disorders.

Division of Hematology and Oncology
The division offers diagnostic, treatment, care and nursing of cancer and hematology patients. The division consists of two wards, a day clinic and a special unit for radiation therapy. This organization is unique to Stavanger University Hospital, and does not exist elsewhere in Norway. The reason for gathering hematology and oncology in one division is the similarity in methods of treatment of these diseases. The division established a mobile palliative team in 2005 that operates as a link between the hospital and the municipality in order to give patients the option of receiving help for pain management and have a natural and peaceful death at home.

Division of Psychiatry
Division of Psychiatry is the largest division at Stavanger University Hospital with 1250 employees and a capacity of 350 inpatients and 76 day-care patients. In addition the division has an outpatient clinic, mobile service and an emergency ward. The division consists of departments divided into adult, adolescents and child-psychiatry. There is also a drug-abuse unit and five community psychiatric centres as well as a department for education and research.

Division of Rehabilitation
The division of Rehabilitation has a specialized hospital function, and the aim is to provide a high quality rehabilitation service for people with problems of mobility and function, with the view of helping them to live as normal and full a life as possible. There are departments for both child and adult rehabilitation. The rehabilitation service offers a wide range of services ranging from mobile teams to clinics, hospital beds and daycare.

Division of Radiology and Laboratory Medicine
The division offers various laboratory services; Pathology, Medical Microbiology, Radiology, Immunology, Transfusion Medicine, Clinical Chemistry, Physiotherapy and other therapeutic services.

Division of Multiple Clinical Sciences
The division consists of five departments. The Dermatology department gives advice on diagnosis and treatment of all skin conditions, including skin cancer. The department of Ophthalmology deals with disease and conditions in the eye. The Neuroscience Centre provides a comprehensive neuroscience service, including neurology, neurosurgery and clinical neurophysiology. The department of Plastic Surgery offers reconstructive surgery, and treats a variety of conditions, ranging from skin cancer, infections, tumors and abnormalities. Finally, the department of Ear, Nose and Throat offers diagnosis and treatment for ear-nose-throat diseases and conditions.

Division of Service and Facilities
Division of Service and Facilities consist of six departments responsible for non-medical services at Stavanger University Hospital. 500 employees work in the department that offers supply services, day-care centre, food & beverages, various services, cleaning service and real estate/maintenance.

Support directorates:

CEO’s office
The CEO’s staff consists of the Chief Executive Officer, the Secretariat, Department of Public Relations and Communications, and the Project Manager.

Finance and accounting
The department is responsible for purchases, contracts, salaries, accounting and economical- reports and control. The department offer support to the other divisions at Stavanger University Hospital and attend to the internal control in relation to the economical situation.

Research and Human Resources
The department is responsible for the research programs, profession-strategy, product-quality, IT- strategy and operation, profession training, organizational and leader development, employer-politics, personnel, HMS, infection protection and library.
