The public hospitals in Norway are organised in four regional and 50 local health trusts. Stavanger University Hospital (SUS) is one of five trusts owned by The Western Norway Regional Health Authority.

Stavanger University Hospital employs approximately 6 500 people and serves as the local hospital from the municipality of Hjelmeland in the north to the municipality of Sokndal in the south, and it is the central hospital of Rogaland county. SUS’ budget is approximately 4,7 billion kroner. The general catchment area of the hospital is approximately 200.000 m2.

The hospital has four main tasks:
Patient care, research, education of health personnel and patient training.
